Opening day at Whistler Blackcomg is a huge deal with much excitement. Especially when the mountain opens early and there is lots of powder snow built up from days of no traffic. Opening day is an annual tradition that goes back to the early days of Whistler resort. Skiers and snowboarders line up early for opening day to be the first people up the lift to enjoy all of the untracked powder snow. During 2012 Whistler mountain is going to open first on the 17th, the Blackcomb mountain at a later date. Whistler Blackcomb ski and snowboard resort has a very long season that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The skiing and snowboarding is very good with early uploading and memorable apres ski relaxation in the village.

“Thanks to cool temperatures, impressive snowmaking and natural snowfall Whistler Mountain will open five days early on Saturday, November 17. With five lifts running, guests will have the option to upload from either the Whistler Village Gondola or the Creekside Gondola. Blackcomb Mountain will open, as scheduled, on American Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 22, 2012. Opening day is always an adventure in Whistler BC, Canada. The anticipation builds during the shoulder seasons when Mountain Biking ends and the Winter sports have yet to begin due to a lack of snow. Once the early Winter season arrives, skiing and snowboarding is available in the upper elevations of Whistler Blackcomb resort. The snow accumulates at the upper elevations due to the colder temperature.
